WARNING - DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

It is with great embarrassment (on my part and my Mother's) that I share with you the picture of my horrible incident with the feathers. Who knew a blanket could make this much of a mess. What was my Mom thinking!?!?!?!

Today was a much better day. Mom left me in the kitchen with only a blanket, my bone, and a rope toy that I was encouraged to chew on (she smeared my favorite treat on it.) She worried a little that I might decide to chew on the kitchen furniture, but I didn't. I didn't tinkle on the blanket either. Yea!

I am emailing Meeshka the picture hoping to get into HULA-hoop. Hershey got in. If this picture doesn't get me in ... well, I don't know what will.

Thank you to all my dog friends that encouraged my Mom. Thank you especially to Hana for suggesting a play date. That is one Mom had not thought of. I don't think Mom would ever get rid of me. Christmas is coming and my Mom will have two weeks to spend with me. Company will be here and Hershey will even be here. I will just go nuts in January when they all go.

Wowie Zowie, Copper! Look at all those feathers! If I didn't know better, I'd think you defeathered a bird! I'd have liked to have been a fly on the wall when all that happened. Hopefully you didn't try to eat the feathers. Did your dad take the picture since your mom was mad at you at the time?

I'm glad you and your mom had a better day today. I just knew we'd get some good news, afterall, yesterday the verification word had "paw" in it!! :-)

As Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow is another day." Keep your chin up! I hope the play date works out.

Me and my mom said doggie prayers today that you would be ok. I knew you could be a good boy. Lets hope tomorrow is the same! Dude, if I made it into HULA you should TOTALLY get in!

Copper, that is the bestest news ever!I was feeling so sad for you and your mom today. I know she loves you lots and lots, but sometimes we dogs can really try the patience of humans. We don't think like humans and they don't think like us, so sometimes it is hard to understand each other and make each other happy. I don't know what size of town you live in, but lots of towns have doggie daycares. Maybe a couple of days a week at daycare would help you not be so bored all week long home alone.

Yay - you did good! Both with the big mess of feathers and not tinkling in the kitchen! Whoo hoo! What's this HULA thing?

Nice mess! Check out the mess Gus made when I took Lulu to the Dachshund Rescue Reunion.

Copper, I hate to bring this up and all... but are you "fixed"?

I think a lot of your problem might be consistency. Your human woman seems to be trying an awful lot of different things too quickly and expecting overnight results, and with us dogs, that just doesn't happen.

We dogs don't like change, we hate surprises, and if you mess with our schedule, we get all sorts of bent out of shape. You need to train your human woman to try one thing for two weeks, be consistent with it, and don't try anything else unless that two weeks is up and it doesn't work.

She should try the metal jail again, but this time you get NOTHING in your jail except a stuffed kong. She will take you for a nice long walk prior to being locked in the jail, she will not force you into the jail, instead she will entice you into the jail with the kong and praise you for going in on your own. When she comes home, no matter what you have done in the jail, she will let you out and not make a big deal out of it, she will open the door and let you out, that's it. She will even ignore you probably while she puts on your leash and takes you outside to pee and do your business. You see, its a big deal going in the crate, but its no big deal coming out of the crate. If she makes a big deal about coming out of the crate, then you'll want to come out of the crate and get a big deal. Being in the crate should mean that you get good things. No bad things EVER happen to you in your crate, that is YOUR crate and its your home free place. Nobody can touch you in your crate EVER. Crates are not for punishment, they are for sanctuary.

We LOVE our crates. Every morning the human woman makes us special kongs and we literally run into our crates at full speed. We LOVE our crates, and if your human woman teaches you right, so will you, and you will probably stop tinkling all over the place because you will know what your routine is, you will know what to expect, you will have a happy human woman.

Oh Copper. I said doggie prayers for you also with my girl. I think Meeshka has some great advice for you. Sometimes us doggies mistake negative attention for any attention at all and feel as though our bad behaviors have been reinforced.
The stuffed kong is key. Your mom should cram it with yuuummmy stuff and then put it in the crate for you to work on while she leaves. This helps seperation anxiety by keeping our minds occupied! Your mom should also give you a happy morning routine. Maybe she could fill the kong, get you settled in the crate, give you praise for 30 seconds, and then tell you "See you later" and leave swiftly. Then come home totally calm (no matter what you did) and do the same the following morning.

Copper, please let us know how you and your mom are doing! I just love your blog and know there is lots of love between you and your mom. Just a bit of miscommunicated doggie-human relations!
