Memorial Day and Me ....

(I'm a sailor Doxie. My Dad was in the Navy.)

I hope all my American dogfriends are having a nice Memorial Day remembering the men and women who have served our country.

I've been tagged by Lorenza to tell you 8 facts or habits about myself.
1. I love to go out on my back deck. I have to ask to go out there and once I am out there, I have to ask to come back in the house. I can't get down into the yard from the deck. If I hear somebody open that door, I yelp this funny yelp that means "Hey, wait for me!" and RUN to the back door. From the deck I can see the neighbor dogs.
2. I have a bald patch on my chest right where my chest is the deepest. I don't know why it's there.
3. I like to pile my toys in the dining room in front of the doorway to the kitchen. Mom moves them sometimes, but I move them right back.

4. I hide under dining room table when it looks like Mom or Dad might lock me in the kitchen. Dad calls this my "crystal palace." I can see you an you can see me but it is hard to get me out because there are so many table and chair legs. I hate being locked in the kitchen.

5. I get to lick your ice cream bowl when you're finished with it. It's a rule. It is the only people food I get. If there is family here, I get their bowls too. And, can count.
6. When Mom or Dad come home from somewhere, I have to go outside to go poddy. It doesn't matter if they have been gone only 20 minutes and just went out 30 minutes ago.
7. I never lift my leg to pee.
8. I don't dig.

Here are the rules:
1- Each person tagged starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2- The person tagged blogs about each of these facts and posts the rules.
3- At the end of the blog entry, list eight people to get tagged.
4- Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they've been tagged, and to read your blog.

I tag Hershey, Ivy, Luckie, Pippen, Hana, Isabella, Meeshka and Reina.

Why I love my Dad more sometimes....

Dogfriends and Girl Girl, a while ago I told you about how my Mom went away and my Dad took care of me for two weeks. I told you that Dad did things different, and had different rules and stuff. Well, I want to show you one of the things Dad does BETTER than Mom.
Mom stays home with me a lot lately. Usually she feeds me before Dad comes home from work. But if I am lucky, Dad feeds me when he gets home. I like it when Dad feeds me .... I'll show you why.
This is how much food Mom feeds me......
This is how much food Dad feeds me ......
He also give me more cookies.
I had some excitement tonight. The other day my Mom mowed the yard and she found a piece of a SQUIRREL'S TAIL!!! It was just a few hairs but she picked it up gingerly with a piece of paper and put it in the garage so I could smell it and she could blog about it. She tried to let me smell it yesterday but I didn't want to smell it at all, just gobble it down. She could not take a picture. She put in down in the garage so she could take a picture of it later.
Well, today, Dad let me go with him in the garage with the garage door open! (He trusts me.) Well, I went out with him but I ran back inside like a flash and ran under the dining room table. Mom saw me running and knew I was up to something. She looked and saw that I had the squirrel tail fur in my mouth and was trying to eat it! SHE TOOK IT AWAY FROM ME! I am so mad at her and she is so disgusted that she had to touch the squirrel tail with her hand. It serves her right for taking it away from me!
So, that is why I sometimes love my Dad more.

Tummy Tag ....

Dogfriends ... I did not want to lay on my back and have this picture taken.

Celebrity Look-alike ...

Lorenzo and Luckie tagged me for the Celebrity Look-alike game. My Mom wants to know who started this because she says it is HARD. But she is going to go with Antonio Bandaras and she has to tell you how she came up with that.

Today my Daddy took the day off and he and Mom went to lunch at the salad pizza place. (Naturally they DID NOT take me, of course ....humpf!)

This is a what it looks like. It is not a fancy place but Mom LOVES the salad pizza they make. It is an italian restaurant and they have pictures of actors and actresses on the wall along with all the other "pseudo-italian" decor and it reminded Mom of the Celebrity Lookalike tag game.
She told my Dad about the game and asked him who he thought I looked like. She said that as she was telling him the story about the game and Lorenzo and Luckie and what it meant to be tagged, she laughed at herself because she couldn't believe she was having a conversation with Dad about my blog and my blog friends and which celebrity I looked like!!! Only Hershey's mother can REALLY appreciate this but I am telling you anyway. You see my Dad is the somewhat serious type and does not read my blog (even though he reads everything else in the universe) and sometimes almost makes fun of my Mom for being my secretary! (I know, my feelings are hurt about it .... but he feeds me more than Mom does and he scratches my back when it doesn't itch so I forgive him.)
But anyway, Dad answered right away with Antonio Bandaras because when I was a puppy Dad sometimes called me Zoro. He says it was because I took things. In fact he anted to name me Zoro but Mom said "No."
So, in honor of my Dad, I say I look like Antonio Bandaras. Thanks Dad. He's cool! He also has black hair, dark eyes and long nose.

Oh, and Mom says to tell all you food people that Salad Pizza is a hand tossed style pizza crust with a tomato base pizza topping, baked and then topped with a cold salad consisting of lettuce, tomatoes, purple onions and some seasonings in a red wine vinegrette italian type dressing. No cheese. It is served cold and Mom says it rocks. And she is shocked to see that they have a web site!

I'll tell you ....

Everydog and Girl girl,

I finally got my delinquent Mom away from the television! I am soooo behind on my blog, it's pathetic. I still have to post pictures of my tummy for tummy tag and Luckie wants to know about my favorite web sites and now Hana wants to know why I started blogging. So much to do ....

Well, tonight I am going to tell you why I started blogging because Mom still doesn't have pictures of my tummy ready and she has to think hard about the web sites. I didn't have to think too hard to remember why I started to blog though.
I looked back and I first posted on July 17th, 2006 so I am coming up on my 1st anniversary. (I'll have to have a big party!) Mom had been reading Pet Peeves, a blog by a Veterinarian named Susan somewhere in the USA. Mom found it on the internet one night when MSN gave it some sort of an award and she spent two nights reading all of the entries. She thought it was super interesting because our neighbor Miss Cindy is also a vet. Mom has always been interested in animals (she loves ME) and has thought several times that she might like to work at a vet office and she admires people like Miss Cindy and others for studying hard and becoming a Doctor who can help animals. Reading about taking care of them was very intersting.

On Susan's blog, she found a link to Isabella's blog. From there she found The Dachsies and Meeshka. She enjoyed reading their blogs a lot. She found lots more and thought we should do it too.

Blogging appealed to her (and to ME!) because there was writing and digital photography and computers involved and because it would be about ME! She figured it would be fun and teach her (and ME!) a thing or two. It would also be a fun way to keep in touch with Hershey, my best buddy. You see, he USED to live in my city and he came over almost every week.

We had sleepovers and had a toy exchange program and I taught him everything I know. (Some of it he didn't learn very well! ...... but I tried.) But before I started blogging, he moved far far away to Virginia. I live in Georgia so it is way too far to go see him every week. I want to go see him really bad now so that I can smell his new baby. I hear she smells pretty nice. Hershey says she is noisy though and takes up a lot of his Mom's time and attention and so he has not gotten to blog much. Poor guy.

Anyway, I have been blogging for almost a year now and I have made so many nice friends! I got WAY WAY WAY more Christmas cards this year than my Mom has ever gotten in her whole life! She was so jealous!

I even got a Valentine Card from Fufu. Hana made me a calendar and a ribbon necklace.

Hershey and I had our Mom's deliver cookies personally to Ivy's house. I was accepted into Meeshka's HULA organization. Mom and stayed up late and read most of Meeshka's entries during the Blog-a-thon. We've learned about sheep herding from Pippin (it's hard work and you have to be smart!) and about Singapore from Luckie (it's hot but beautiful there.) Hana nominated me for the Awesome Blog Award. I didn't win but it was such an honor to be nominated. Mom says she wishes she had time to read all of the dog blogs at DWB's. (I keep telling her that she needs to set a goal of visiting 3 or 4 new blogs a night... how hard can that be? Aren't I that important to her?) Maybe she can do it now that Dancing With the Stars is over. Gheesh!
I hear I am supposed to tag some doggies and tell them to tell how they started blogging. I tag Hershey and Ivy and Isabella.

"EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DIARY"

Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ......

It's different from Singapore .....

Luckie recently posted about what it is like in Singapore. My Mom has been to Thailand but she has never been to Singapore. Luckie's description of Singapore makes it sound very beautiful and interesting, and very different from Augusta, Georgia. (I think I want to go to Singapore and visit Luckie someday. She's really cute.) Since I enjoyed reading about Singapore because it is so different, I thought maybe some of you would like to know about my hometown.

the Riverwalk (I've never been there)

Augusta is in west Georgia on the Savannh River on the border of South Carolina and Georgia . It is Georgia's second-oldest and second-largest city. Atlanta is the largest city in Georgia. Augusta is famous for the Master's Golf Tournament .

The Master's (never been here either)

You may have heard Augusta mentioned in the news this Christmas when James Brown passed away. He was from Augusta. This statue of him is on a street downtown.

We have museums and a riverwalk and the Augusta Canal and lots of other things to see and do.

the Augusta Canal - dogs can walk along side it - I've been there

Unlike Singapore, most people live in houses or apartments (not tall ones like where Luckie lives.) I live in a house. Mom and Dad drive everywhere in their cars (and they sometimes take me!) and do not take public transportation like you can do in some big cities. Traffic is not bad, nothing like Atlanta. We have lots of churches (my Mom and Dad go to one) and shopping (my favorite store is Petsmart) and we have good schools (not that I know because I don't go to school.) My favorite place to go in the car is where we get ice cream.

my yard

I have a small fenced-in yard in my front yard. I have never been in my back yard because my Mom says it is yuccy and scary back there. It is kinda wooded and she can't keep up with it. I like my front yard. And how can I saw this delicately Luckie ..... it's my bathroom.

Azaleas (they block my view of the street!!!)

Augusta is called the 'Garden City' and people here grow their fair share of flowers and plants. Some people think Augusta is prettiest in the spring during the first week of April, which is not co-incidentally when they hold the Master's Golf Tournament. The azaleas and dogwoods bloom then and the pine pollen decends from the trees and gets in my dogwater. They say people have a lot of allergies here. I must have allergies too because every year about this time I start itching!!!! (I am itching NOW!) I have squirrels in my yard and I try to chase them but I never catch them. I have birds too, even owls. If Mom would let me go down to the creek, I might get to see a beaver or and turtle or a maybe a deer. I would never see a big tall elk like Zach might see or find a juicy mole some some other dogs might have.

my Dogwood tree

The weather here is warm, but I know it's not as warm as Singapore. Once in a while it snows here but it melts in a day or two. When it snows here, the whole city stops and the schools close.

That's my city. I still want to go visit Luckie though.

What I love ....

Girl girl, Fufu's friend, asked all us dogs to tell what we love. That is easier than getting a picture of my tummy so I will tell you what I love today. I promise I'll get the tummy picture soon.

First of all I LOVE my Mom. I love my Dad too, but I love my Mom the most. Of course, since she helps me blog, I have to tell you that or she might not help me blog. I lay beside her on the couch. She lets me sleep under the covers with her. (Dad makes me sleep on top of the covers.) She takes me for walks. This was taken before I knew her ... haha.

I LOVE Miss Cindy. She is my Vet and my neighbor. She takes me to work occassionaly and takes care of me sometimes. I just cannot tell you how wonderful she smells ... all those dog and cat smells! Wow! She even rides a motorcycle sometimes. (But this is not her motorcycle.)

I LOVE Hershey. He is my very best buddy and I like being with him a lot. Too bad he lives in Virginia now.

I LOVE my toys. Bear is my favorite toy.

I love to go for slow sniffy walks. No fast walking for me thank you very much!

I love my yard and my comfy loveseat. Who needs a doghouse when you have a loveseat on a porch?

Lastly, I LOVE my dog blog friends!

My Mom is back and I have new routines....

Well, just when I had almost forgotten her, my Mom finally came back. She came home late yesterday making my dinner late. I did the right thing and gleefully said "Hello, hello hello! ... I missed you so much." and peed all over her with excitement and then I ran over to my Dad, who has been taking care of me for two weeks, and said "Who is that again?" Then I jumped up on the loveseat on the porch, my favorite outside spot, and laid down and refused to come speak to her anymore. That will teach her to leave me!

Me on my favorite loveseat

Dad told her about my new routine. She didn't like it. I get TWO cookies in the morning instead of ONE and I get one of the cookies when Dad lets me leave the safety of my fenced in yard and go through the gate and through the garage and into the kitchen. This is Dad's ploy to trap me in the kitchen so he can go to work without having to fish me out from under the dining room table like Mom does. Mom did not like the part about leaving the yard and going through the garage because I could have run into the street. But who says her ways are best anyway? She doesn't get to decide if she isn't here right??? Dad's can do things differently right?

My cookies

Mom also thinks I am a little fatter. Besides getting TWO cookies instead of ONE, Mom thinks Dad interprets a "scoop" differently than she does. I think I like Dad's scoops better. I will have to have Mom take a picture of my tummy (I've been tagged) to show you and you can all tell her I am not fat.

I was really mad at my Mom when she unpacked her suitcase and I smelled Hershey on her clothes. I looked really hard but I couldn't find Hershey in the suitcase so I can only guess she went to see him and didn't bring him home with her. I also smelled a different smell in her clothes, one I didn't recognize. It smelled like spit up milk ... I don't get it. Hershey and Nixon don't drink milk. I did read signals in the suitcase from Hershey that his baby sister is taking up all his mother's time and that he is trying to get attention anyway he can get it like by stealing my Mom's dinner when she was taking care of the baby. And he tells me he never gets people food!!! ........ whatever!

Hershey was NOT in the suitcase

The baby birds in my yard are gone and I didn't get to eat any like Loki did. I have to tell you about going to work with Miss Cindy and about seeing some horses. I have a lot of blogging to do to catch up with my friends. I have to show a tummy picture and tell you about where I live like Luckie did. I haven't been able to read much of anybody elses blog because my Mom had my laptop so y'all be patient with me while I catch up.

Snacks .....

Dad told my Mom that the baby robins hatched the other day and some of them have left the nest. Dad won't let me go outside anytime I want to now. He has to check and make sure the baby robins are not in my yard. He doesn't want me to hurt them. They are hopping around with their mother learning how to find food, he says. Gheesh..... it's my yard! This is not picture of them but is a picture of some internet baby robins. I can't post of picture of my baby robins because my mother has the camera up at Hershey's house taking pictures of Hershey's baby sister. Gheesh!

Speaking of babies.... Mom tells me that Hershey's baby is really sweet and cute. Mom is in love with her and has enjoyed holding her and changing her and dressing her. She says she will be sad when she has to leave and come home. Why that is, I don't know, because she will come home to ME!

Hershey likes the baby but noticed today that the baby gets to poop inside the house. He is sure she pooped inside the house too because he smelled her diaper. He thinks that is not fair at all. He is not supposed to poop in the house!

Well, I have to go outside and see if the birds are still out there.

Hey Mom ...

I got my Dad to help me post this picture of me to show my Mom that I can be as ADORABLE as Hershey's baby sister. See, I even have a baby hat on! Maybe if she sees this ..... she will come home to me. I miss her.

Guest blog ......

Hey dog friends ...... Look what came to my house ....

She smells OK .....

and she hasn't played with my toys or tried to take Brown Bear away from me like Copper does .....

But she keeps me up at night .... so .... I think I'll take a nap now ......

Signed ... a sleepy Hershey
